Printing Vinted shipping labels on a Mac

Vinted is the awkward one. eBay, Etsy and Amazon all have a 4x6 option somewhere, even if it is hidden or forgotten between prints. Vinted does not. Every label arrives as an A4 page with the label occupying part of it.

So there is no setting to find, and the advice that works for other marketplaces — “choose the thermal format” — does not apply here at all.

Why the obvious fix is the wrong one

The instinct is to let the printer shrink the page: set the paper size to 4x6, leave fit-to-page on, and let A4 squeeze down onto the label. It prints. It even looks roughly right at a glance.

It shrinks the barcode too. An A4 page reduced to 100 × 150 mm takes everything on it down by the same proportion, and a barcode scaled that far stops being reliably readable. You find out at the drop-off point, not at the printer.

The label has to come out of the page at full size, not be squeezed into it.

Cropping it by hand

Preview does this without any extra software:

1. Open the downloaded PDF in Preview.
2. Show the markup toolbar, then drag a rectangular selection around the label itself.
3. Press Cmd+K to crop the page down to that selection.
4. Print with paper size set to 4 × 6 or 100 × 150 mm and scale at 100% — not fit-to-page.

The barcode now prints at its intended size, because the label was cut out rather than compressed.

The part that grates

That is six actions, and Vinted gives you no way to avoid them. Every order, every time, for as long as you sell — with a freehand selection that lands slightly differently each go, on a page whose layout never actually changes.

If you sell across several platforms

Worth knowing, because the mixture is the normal case: Vinted always gives A4, while eBay and Etsy give you a choice and Amazon asks every time.

That means the same printer has to handle files of two quite different shapes on the same day, and the ones that need cropping are not always the ones you expect. Checking the page size with Cmd+I before printing takes a second and saves a wasted label.
