Printing Amazon shipping labels on a Mac

Amazon supports 4x6 thermal labels properly. The problem is not capability — it is that Seller Central will not remember that you want them.

The dropdown, and the thing it will not do

When you print a shipping label, Amazon shows a size choice offering 8.5 × 11 and 4 × 6. Pick 4 × 6 and the file arrives already the size of your roll.

There is no setting that makes that stick. Amazon does not carry the choice into your shipping preferences as a default, so it is a decision you make on every single print, forever, and the moment you click past it out of habit you get a Letter page on a 4x6 roll.

That is worth naming plainly because it changes what “fixing it” means. There is no configuration to get right. There is only a step to remember, several times a day.

FBA box labels are a separate flow

Order shipping labels and FBA box or pallet labels are different parts of Seller Central, each with its own size choice. Thermal 4x6 support for FBA box and pallet labels arrived later than for order labels — that flow was Letter-only for a long time.

So if your order labels print beautifully and your FBA carton labels come out tiny, nothing is broken. You picked the size in one flow and not the other.

When you end up with the Letter version

Which, given the above, you will. The label is then a small rectangle on an 8.5 × 11 page, and no print setting corrects that — the printer is faithfully fitting a Letter page onto a 4x6 label.

The useful observation is that Amazon puts the label in the same place on every Letter page it generates. The measurement is the same every time — only the doing of it repeats.

Print settings

1. Download the PDF rather than printing from the browser tab.
2. File → Print, then Show Details.
3. Select the thermal printer first — that is what populates the size list.
4. Set Paper Size to 4 × 6 or 100 × 150 mm.
5. Set Scale to 100%, Margins to none.

Batches

Printing several orders at once gives you one PDF with a label per page. macOS sends that as a single print job, which works until the printer jams or the roll runs out partway through — at that point you cannot tell which label failed without checking every one, and reprinting means sending them all again.

Splitting the file into individual labels first is what makes a failure cost one label instead of the batch.
